The Road to Creativity

I wouldn't deviate from the norm. As most of the blogs have started this way, I'm going to do the same. So I would say this to all of you...... WELCOME!

This blog would serve as my journal as I walk the path towards CREATIVITY. I'd say that's one thing that has eluded me in my world of photography. Just a brief history on how I got started with photography...I had been taking photos since 1992. I didn't even own a camera back then. I started with a Fuji film camera which I borrowed from my aunt. Then ten years later, I bought my very first digital camera, a Sony DSC P71. It was a 3.2 megapixel camera. I used those two cameras primarily to record memories of my travel adventures. I first used the Fuji camera on my highschool educational field trip to the zoo and the museum.  I bought the Sony digital camera just before I went to spend holidays in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Although I love to take photographs, I never really had any thoughts of getting serious in photography until my company sponsored a photography competition in 2004. I borrowed my friend's digital SLR and took some photos in downtown Los Angeles. I got surprised when three of my photos became finalists in three out of the five categories I joined in. I didn't win the grand prize but joining the competition had somehow changed my perception. I realized that I've got the eye for photography. So when I was able to save some money, I bought my very first digital SLR on March 2005 - a Canon EOS 350D. That's when started to become really serious. Though at first (and I think sometimes even now) my photos can be considered just as snapshots, I saw myself making some progress.

I was just using my kit lens, but on my birthday, I got a very nice gift: two lenses! One Sigma 70-300mm and a Sigma 17-70mm. They were definitely a big upgrade to my Canon 18-55mm kit lens. As I've progressed, I got disatisfied with the quality of my images so I bought two more lenses: a Canon 50mm f/1.4 and a Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L. Then I upgraded to Canon EOS 40D, and bought a few more gadgets.

I found myself getting too technical because of my gears and if I think another gear would help me improve my images, I will buy it. But now, I decided to change my approach. This time, I'm gonna take advantage of what I have and be satisfied with it. I promised to myself that I'm not going to buy other gears unless the money comes from my income in photography. So instead of being technical, I would start using them to discover another hidden talent of mine.... CREATIVITY. I know it's there, hidden within me somewhere, I just have to dig it! ;)

I have a goal of becoming a commercial slash advertising photographer one day. This would be the start of my journey and I hope that you'll be a part of it. =)

P.S. This would probablybe the last time that I will not deviate from the norm and I contradict my first statement.
